Ranch Weeks with Cattle Drives
At Trumvallen, you can experience an unforgettable multi-day trail with Western-style riding in the mountains. Our cattle roam freely, just as they did centuries ago. Their pastures cover an area of approximately 10,000 hectares! We keep about 50 animals on the ranch, mostly Herford. During these days, you’re welcome to participate in the day-to-day care of our cattle and help us move them between their pastures. Between the cattle drives, we ride out on amazing mountain and wilderness trails.
You will sleep in one of our old cattle herder’s huts. Your experience is important to us, and our aim is to get you to really go “back to basics”. Almost all our food will be cooked on the camp fire. If you want to make your hut warm and cozy, you can light a fire in the wood-burning stove. You can also relax by spending some luxurious time in the sauna and going for a dip in the pond afterwards. Naturally, there is a hot shower–and a wood-fired hot tub if you’re more into that!
The horses are kept in a paddock near the hut overnight. Just like on any ranch, every rider is responsible for the care of their own horse! Our horses are well-trained and very easy-going, so anybody can feel comfortable around them!
We always start with a bit of test-riding in the paddock to give everyone a chance to get to know the horse they will be spending the week with. Anybody who hasn’t tried Western-style riding before will get an opportunity to discover how incredibly easy and fun it is, and, of course, we always tailor the week to your previous riding experience.
The ranch week isn’t all cattle drives; we also go on mountain rides. When we’re not working with the cattle, we ride up the mountains, above the tree line. There, you’ll be riding at 1 000 meters above sea level, and experience magnificent views of the mountains of Härjedalen.
In the evenings, we relax around the campfire. We talk about the day, eat good food, and drink a beer or two, until it’s time to pull down the roller blind and go to sleep to the crackling of a wood-burning stove…
The Ranch week gives you the total experience, five whole days, including lodging and full board.

We want to offer all of our guests a genuine nature experience. You’ll be sleeping in a cattle herder’s hut in a meadow, surrounded by mountains and wilderness. The hut is a modest timber cabin, and you’ll spend a few days without electricity and running water. Just like in the olden days. The huts are shared by several guests, and we cook our food on the campfire in the evenings. We eat dinner together in the ride camp, after which you can go for a soak in our wood-fired hot tub or relax in the sauna, and then maybe take a dip in our pretty little pond.
Meat produced from the cattle we herd in the summer or from our local farmer in Nybo Gård. Sometimes we serve mountain-caught fish from Brötnan accompanied by a lovely cloudberry sauce. A typical lunch would be a soup that we heat over the campfire, or perhaps a substantial sandwich.
